Police Officer SHoot in The HEAD in Wayne State University

Detroit police ongoing to search for the shooter after a Wayne State University police officer was shot near campus tonight and was rushed to Detroit Receiving hospital. "The officer is very critical," and “He‘s in surgery right now “said Wayne State Police Chief Anthony Holt

Holt said the officer was working an area off campus when he stopped to investigate a subject. A back-up officer was in route and found the officer on the ground with a gunshot wound.
The gunfire erupted around 6:45 p.m. near Lincoln and Brainerd streets in the Woodbridge area of the city. The shooting happened a few blocks southwest of the university, according to Detroit police. Police at the scene said they had no comment and could not give the officer's condition. But WWJ reported that the officer was shot once in the head.

The officer was shot in front of the Aging Lincoln Apartments at 3650 Lincoln, a block north of Martin Luther King Boulevard and a block east of Trumbull, in sight of the Motor City Casino's shimmering neon lights in an area of weedy vacant lots.

Massive "manhunt"

Shortly after the shooting, which occurred around 6:30 p.m., several dozen armed officers were seen in the residential area of Woodbridge within two blocks of the campus. "A massive manhunt is going on" with local, state and federal authorities. Police are searching for an African-American man in his 40s with a full beard, a university statement posted on the school's website said Tuesday night. It added he was wearing a white T-shirt with white and black lettering, a skull cap and a brown jacket. Craig said that the suspect was riding a blue BMX bike with a chain wrapped around the seat post.
Many police officers shooting in several Place such in Texas and Missouri on Sunday were the latest in what law enforcement officials say is an alarming spike in ambush-style attacks. A San Antonio detective was fatally shot, and a St. Louis officer was shot twice in the face but survived. Police officers were also shot and injured during traffic stops in Sanibel, Florida, and Gladstone, Missouri, on Sunday night, but authorities have not suggested those were targeted.

One-third of police officers shot to death on the job this year were purposely targeted bytheir assailant, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
